If you’re currently using video marketing it’s important to think solely beyond YouTube.
Facebook now has a staggering 8 billion views of videos every day, making it a hugely effective marketing tool for generating awareness of your brand. But in order to get the most out of Facebook video, it’s important to know exactly how to use the platform for maximum exposure of your web videos. Here are our Top 5 tips.
1. Post videos directly to Facebook
Videos uploaded directly to Facebook will reach a far larger audience than those embedded into Facebook posts from YouTube or other sources. Research by the social media analytics company Quintly found that on average, viewers interact with and share native videos on Facebook ten times more than other video posts.
This is because Facebook prioritises native video in its news feed. Videos that are uploaded directly to Facebook are given more prominent positions. They also play automatically in the news feed, unlike other videos which have to be clicked on in order to play.
2. Add captions so your video can be watched without sound
When videos auto-play on Facebook, they play without sound. Adding captions will enable viewers to understand and engage with your video when scrolling through the news feed. Even if they don’t want to click on your video, there’s a good chance some of them will watch it to the end. The more they engage with it, the more likely they are to click on it and enable the sound. This makes captions a highly effective means of building brand awareness.
If you’re using video ads, Facebook can add captions automatically, as soon as you click Add Captions.
3. Use Featured Video
If you have a Facebook page for your business – and let’s face it, most companies do, so you should too – featuring a video is a great way to increase the popularity of your page. A Featured Video can easily be uploaded to your About section and will be given more prominence because the thumbnail will be larger than any others on your page.
Your Featured Video should be something that sparks a connection with your audience, making them more likely to share it – this way it will potentially reach a lot of viewers in a short amount of time.
4. Intrigue your viewers with a description
When you’re posting a video, it’s important to include some written copy in your post that will make viewers want to watch the video. One of the most effective ways to do this is by asking a question and suggesting that the answer can be found in the video. Alternatively, write a description that inspires excitement or curiosity in your viewers. They’re much more likely to watch if they’ve already been given a sense of expectation.
5. Explore Facebook 360
Facebook now enables you to upload 360-degree videos to its platform. These can be a great means of creating greater audience engagement as they provide a much more immersive experience. Viewers can be in total control of the video, panning and rotating as they choose, to take in exactly what they want. This is particularly useful if you’re uploading a “behind the scenes” experience of your workplace, or a video of an event, as it gives viewers an actual sense of being there.
Facebook video is now one of the most useful tools in your digital marketing arsenal – follow these tips to make it work for you.
